IANTD - Advanced Nitrox

The IANTD Advanced Nitrox course is the first step on the technical diving ladder and it is designed to extend the divers knowledge and skill in the use of Nitrox mixtures. This programme qualifies the diver in the use of Nitrox gas for use as both bottom mix and for accelerated decompression. The maximum diving depth is 42m and decompression stops of up to 15 minutes can be conducted on up to 100% oxygen (a maximum of 1.5 po2).

The following skills are taught

1. Precision buoyancy control and dive techniques

2. Swim in a simulated out-of-air situation (without breathing and exhaling slowly) without a mask for a distance of at least 15 metres and commence gas sharing

3. On an open water dive, demonstrate dive planning abilities, especially with regard to CNS exposure

4. Perform a gas sharing ascent using an alternate second stage

5. Perform valve shutdown drill on each dive

6. Deploy a DSMB 2 times and use it as an ascent guide

7. Demonstrate a safe attitude and awareness to the instructor’s satisfaction

8. Remove and replace tank and BCD at the surface

9. Demonstrate acceptable navigation/orientation abilities

10. Demonstrate the disipline not to exceed the planned dive depth and time

11. Demonstrate accident management and control techniques

12. If entering the course based upon previous experience, complete the IANTD deep diver water skills
